Announcing The Members of The Alliance!
Members of The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York serve 27 counties in New York State and are varying types of frontline community food providers from food pantries, food rescues, mutual aid programs, and more. Collectively, our members provide more than 37 million pounds of food and more than 57 million meals. (Please note that not all our members track these data points, so the true impact is much greater).
Our membership application was launched in January of this year and our Board of Directors voted in our first cohort of members in May. Welcome to all our members!
If you or an organization you know would like more information about becoming a member of The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York, please see the Become a Member Page or fill out our get involved form here.

Lived Experience: The Schenectady Food & Poverty Speak Out
On May 1st, 2024, the Schuyler Center partnered with the Alliance for a Hunger Free New York, the Rotterdam Community Center, and the Labor-Religion Coalition to hold the second in a series of community conversations about child poverty. The Schenectady Food & Poverty Speak Out provided an opportunity for community members to share a meal together, hear each other’s stories, and shape a vision for a New York free from poverty and hunger.
The stories that were shared illuminated the plight, fight, and insight of living with poverty. These stories were documented in a recording of the event, a report identifying common themes, and with visual notes of the experiences.
This is an example of the work that The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York is doing to support lived experience organizing with our members. If you are interested in learning more about this event, please see our website here.
NYS Food Summit
On June 12th, The Alliance hosted the 2024 NYS Food Summit at the Armory at Russel Sage College in Albany. The Food Summit is a biennial event designed to bring together food assistance providers, academics, advocates, and communities across New York. The all-day symposium-style event aims to educate and share best practices, research, and innovations in hunger relief efforts.
Over 370 attendees joined us in person and more than 270 participated online. 47 presentations and talks were given on the topics of Strengthening the Safety Net, Food As Medicine, and Ending Hunger Through Action. The event served as a catalyst for collaboration, and we're excited to continue building on the connections and ideas that were sparked.
You can check out a list of topics and speakers (some of which have presentation materials linked), the livestream of the event, and photos. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success!
Thank you to our presenting sponsors, Broadview and CDPHP, and to all our sponsors, and to Russel Sage College for hosting us.
